Astrocartography is a concept which applies to both Vedic and West Astrology. I have used this with Western Astrology as my software Solar Fire creates a map for each horoscope on the significant changes on a map. So what is Astrocartography and what is it not? Is it worth looking into?
First, Astrocartography shows how your chart moves across a map. It does not replace the natal birth chart which is yours to keep through it all! However, it offers a nuance that can make a difference. Your chart ascendent is based on the time and place of birth. Astrocartography moves the ascendent clockwise (west) or counter clockwise (east) so that the planets will move houses depending how far you travel in each direction. The houses represent areas of our lives, so you may be able to help or tap down areas of your life by moving. The sign and placement of planets will remain. The map in Solar fire shows planets moving over the angles of the chart, which is the ascendent (you) , descendent (relationships) , MC (career) and IC (home). Depending on which area of your life you want to change, and to what purpose you would look for certain planets to be present on an angle.
For example, if your career needs some energy to advance you would want your Sun or Saturn in the 10th house or MC. Where would this be in your chart? Or if you wanted to find a relationship look for Venus in the descendent. Are you depressed with Saturn on your ascendent, maybe move it to your 6th house of service and enemies. Note all your planets will change so one positive change could yield a negative change in another area of life. You need to play with it and note places you’ve been and test it out. I discovered Astrocartography after many years of travel and noticed certain places brought out different aspects of my life, some good, some not. I traveled to the west coast of the US and also to Asia, Africa and Europe and compared notes to my experiences and the way the chart moved. It aligned! My best place seems to be Central Asia and the west coast improved my home life by moving my mars away from my IC (home) and replaced it with Jupiter, so it was more peaceful. An Astrologer noted my Moon in Miami, and this is where most of my mother’s family resides (the moon represents mother). So if you study the map you may notice other things too. Note that you may also find your ideal place in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, so some changes are not going to be possible. It is worth exploring. Again this will help bring out your potential but does not change your potential which is fixed.
Next topic is death and astrology, a taboo topic to be explored carefully….
