Every astrologer, Vedic and West, talks about Saturn, for good reason. You need to watch where Saturn is transiting in your chart, because it can explain what seems like unexplainable thoughts. If you are this far into my blog then you are probably familiar with the Saturn return, a rite of passage into adulthood at around 30 years old, exactly the time it takes for Saturn to spin around the chart with all its retrogrades. However, if you think Saturn’s influence stops there, you are in for a surprise. You will hear a lot how Saturn helps us face our destiny, our responsibilities, our commitment, and not to fear it like bad tasting medicine. Saturn is not fun, Saturn will never be fun. Saturn is slow and heavy and that is how you will feel when it winks at you from various places in its chart journey.
Although everyone has different sensitivities in their chart which only a reading will uncover, there are some general spots to be wary of as Saturn lumbers through each house, over each planet, the axis points, and looks at the place it started when you were born. When you think of all the places it can run over, it seems most of our time is some reflection point of Saturn’s influence. Saturn takes about 2.5 years in each house, so is slow moving. Every 7 years from the starting point of conjunction with Saturn natal, it will square or oppose. At these times a test, a pivot in your life will occur, internally or externally or both, until you are back at the starting point. Along the way it will bump into your moon, and this period is usually an emotional growth point, and often results in depression. It will bump over your ascendent and your body or bones will feel older, as Saturn is old age. It will go over your home IC point and home will feel like it has far more needs to be cared for or work at the MC where work will require more effort but will also likely give more of a reward.
Like all planets, Saturn’s influence does better in some areas of your life then others. Some house transits will be less heavy then others. Saturn does well in the 6th house of work and health, and the tenth house of work and career. It is not to fear when Saturn comes to town in a prominent position, but seeing it in the chart can be reassuring in what you are experiencing is validated and also that it will pass. Remember the lead up to an aspect is the time it is sharpest and the separation or release when you have gone over the hump. So as Saturn approaches your moon, it will be harder then when it finally leaves and moves to the next space. If you doubt this theory, then you can go back and mark all the times in the past that Saturn has hit these points and you will see a pattern emerge, and that pattern is you.
